Grand Classic Ballet. "Swan Lake" with live string quartet 17 October 2026

On October 17, 2026, in Lübeck, a reimagined classic awaits you—up close and personal, accompanied by a live string quartet!

“Swan Lake—Beyond the Stage” presents Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece in an intimate, immersive production. Audiences will experience the legendary ballet like never before—accompanied by a live string quartet that will bring the music to life in its purest and most emotional form.

This contemporary interpretation blurs the boundaries between the stage and the audience. The fate of Odette and Odile unfolds in a visually stunning space of light and music. The minimalist aesthetic and cinematic storytelling lend this classic a whole new depth. The immediate soundscape created by the live string quartet intensifies every movement and makes every nuance of the music palpable.

“Swan Lake—Beyond the Stage” is an invitation to experience ballet in a new way—directly, emotionally, and beyond familiar boundaries.

How does this format differ from a traditional production?

The main difference in this version is the chamber format: instead of a full symphony orchestra, the music is performed by a live string quartet. This choice enhances the immersive nature of the production: the audience is closer to the performers and experiences the action as a unified space of light, music, and movement.

Therefore, “Swan Lake” with a string quartet differs from a traditional theatrical production not only in the composition of the musicians but also in the way they interact with the stage.

At the same time, the classic ballet repertoire remains the foundation. Tchaikovsky’s music is combined with the choreographic tradition of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, upon which Grand Classic Ballet’s productions are traditionally based.

The story of Odette and Odile receives a modern interpretation while retaining its choreographic foundation. Grand Classic Ballet’s “Swan Lake” combines academic tradition with a new stage format.

Please note that if you’re looking for tickets to “Swan Lake” in Berlin, you should keep in mind that Swan Lake – Beyond the Stage is a special chamber version featuring a live string quartet for Lübeck, which will be performed in October 2026, whereas in the German capital, a large-scale production accompanied by a full orchestra is scheduled for December 2026.
